We have seen a change in transportation recently. Cars were the king of the road, however we can now see a growing trend in the popularity of cycling as a main method of transport. Perhaps the trend can be put down to 'green' thinking, or maybe just the prices of gas are starting to get to people. Whatever the reason, there are more cyclists on the road than ever. You need to make sure you pick a bike that is the right size. To accomplish this you need know your inseam measurement. Simply measure the distance from your groin to the bottom of your foot, down the inside of your leg. You should ideally be able to place both feet on the ground when sitting in on your bike. This is for safety more than anything else, if your brakes should fail you will not be able to easily stop the bike otherwise.

For a road bike you should take away 9" from the inseam measurement you took earlier. This is down to the tires a road bike equips. Road bikes are meant for city cycling—the tires are thinner and work best on concrete anonymous paving. If you are looking for a mountain bike, you will want to subtract about a foot (twelve inches) from your inseam measurement. Mountain bikes have different tires than a road bike. Mountain bike tires will be thick and designed for mountainous terrain. You can of course use a mountain bike for road cycling but this isn't supposed to be their primary use.

The angle of your seat (also called the saddle) is also important. You can tilt the seat any way you want it. Some cyclists are more comfortable in a slightly forward position, and therefore, find a completely flat seat inappropriate for them. Continue to adjust your seat until it feels the best for you. You may not want to adjust the seat at all in the beginning, then after a ride realize that the way it was positioned is not the way you want it at all. You will need to think about many different things when choosing a bike for them. The durability of a bike may be the most important thing depending on how you intend to use it. You may simply what the most reliable bike for getting you around the city. Some people have to think very seriously about the price they are paying for a bike. Be sure to shop around before taking the final decision and parting with your cash. If you just get the first one you find it may not be the best suited for you and could even be a bad bike.
